Our Daegu Photography Group has just formed, and so far, over 40 Koreans and foreigners have RSVP’d for our first photo excursion together, at Pagyesa. On the subject of Daegu and photography, I found a great local photographer sharing his best Daegu shots:

Perhaps an old Korean onlooker might mistake the lack of attire due to possible fabric conservation to withstand the city’s recession. But any set of legs in front of this store on Dongseongno simply knows that hot pants and mini-skirts are in fashion, this summer.
Rain and lightning continue to descend on Daegu and is expected to continue until Wednesday.

Taxi drivers idling away at taxi stands are feeling the pinch at the pumps and have started taking conservation measures, such as pushing their cars while waiting in line, as in this photo taken at Daegu Airport.
Conversation springboards
1. What do you think is the root cause of the oil crisis?
2. What conservation decisions can you and your family make to reduce oil use?
3. What alternative forms of energy do you think are viable for Korea?

A shot of the mass of Koreans who held a rally in front of Debec last weekend, to protest the US beef import controversy.

A teenager jumps the turnstiles at Banwoldang Station, a scene that is becoming more and more common, as many young Koreans are progressively developing a disregard for the lack of motivation of the subway attendants at stations.

In light of the recent schoolyard sexual assault incident, schools across the city are installing CCTV cameras in blindspots, like this elementary school in Chimsan-dong.

The Avian flu scare has taken its toll on the chicken-peddling restaurants of Daegu, so much so that the city’s Namgu district office in Bongdeok-dong sent its civil servants to gorge on samgyetang in front of onlooking cameras, in hopes to stimulate interest to start eating chicken. Knowing how much little merit Koreans place on government telling them what to do, it’s a good bet that later there was a line-up of officials heading to the washroom to place finger down throat.
