Babalu finally has moved, thank god. Tired of giving directions to their old place out east of downtown. And they certainly moved to prime location. Right in the thick of Rodeo Street! Now I need to go update the snazzy downtown Daegu maps that me and the graphic designer are aiming to release soon.

Keeping with the dance lesson themed blog posts about Daegu of late, like Babalu and Club Anna, I should mention that Kdance teaches belly dancing, jazz dance, etc…I’m not into the dance scene, per se, but its just something that I started researching and writing about and can’t seem to stop until I’ve unearthed and written a meaningful amount of info. I promise I’ll drop it. Well, maybe after profiling a few more salsa clubs in Daegu. Then I’ll give it up and focus on something else.

Right below Babalu is Club Anna. A ballroom that offers free swing dancing lessons on Fridays and has regular swing dancing on Saturdays.

Here’s a swing dancing video at Club Anna.

Babalu is one of the longest running bars in Daegu that attracts a steady following from local expats. And that’s saying something, considering its distant location from the hustle and bustle from Rodeo Street nightlife. The draw that keeps them going is the latin music and salsa dancing that make up the Babalu experience. A fantastic cross-section of Koreans, english teachers, and US army personnel from the Camps, create an exciting synergy of movement that kind easily be found in Korea, let alone Daegu. And don’t be shy if you don’t how to dance, as the owners regularly hold salsa classes from M-F between 7-8pm.

Babalu Babalu is certainly not the one and only salsa club in Daegu, in fact there is quite a lively salsa scene in this city. Look for future blog posts here to peel the skin off the salsa onion of Daegu and leave a trail of breadcrumbs on where you can find more of this nightlife.
