The latest musing about camp closures appear to indicate that the bulk of USFK forces will be pulling out and moving to Hawaii by 2012. Shit, then that’s gotta be, like what, 2017, once you factor in bureaucratic BS, shuffling of feet, and further pandering to the Korean media whooping up anti-americanism to sell newspapers that are tapping into the undertone of anti-american sentiment (or at least the avg Korean’s curiousity about such articles) that rears its head whenever Korean teens get run over by tanks or US cows go mad.

In short, this is a cover-your-ass announcement made to placate the anti-US sentiment over the US beef thing. Once that storm passes, watch for the Korean govt to begin the process of subtle recanting of all their current bluster to the US.

Besides, any serious prospect of a pullout will provoke all the Korean golf enthusiasts in Daegu, who are able to finagle their way onto Camp Walker’s relatively inexpensive golf course, to start their own candlelight protests, backed up by the boisterous shouting of the fiesty, permed ajummas who run the juicy bars around the bases.
