Influenced by the success of popular waterparks like Caribbean Bay and Spa Valley, international and domestic corporations are converging on Daegu in hopes to capitalize on the city’s under-utilized potential for adding more large-scale amusement park facilities:

1. In March, a Canadian-based corporation visited the Bongmu Resort area in Dong-gu, with their eyes on building an amusement park on the scale of Woobang Towerland, and also build a waterpark along with it. A final decision has not been made yet. (But that would be a PERFECT place to do something like that, given the location.)

2. Just west of Bongmu Resort is the massive Esiapolis residential and commerical development project, expected to wrap in 2011. No less than 30 companies are bidding with the city over plans to build a waterpark there. The current hang-up is that the city is requiring for them to also build a big hotel adjacent to the park, which is causing some delay in some of the negotiations. The city hopes to decide on a bidder this summer.

3. Out west by Woobang Towerland is a large hotel being built, called ‘Ocean Island Hotel’. The hotel will feature a large indoor waterpark, perhaps something along the lines of Ocean Castle. Well, I hope so, anyway.

4. A Caribbean Bay-style waterpark is being discussed for the vicinity of Daegu Grand Park by World Cup Stadium.
